I don’t know if anyone else will agree with me, but there’s something about Verdi’s Un Ballo … it seems … I dunno … more “earthy” to me than, for instance, Puccini’s operas. The music we are playing seems to me to be so straight forward and yet, because of this, it makes me smile. I can’t say that Un Ballo moves me in the way that a Puccini opera does, and it isn’t refined or graceful (or gracious) like some other opera composers’ music. But it’s … well, it’s kind of fun and feels sort of like basic training or something. As if I know what basic training feels like!

This probably isn’t making any sense to the rest of you. I’ve never claimed to be understandable though! ;-)

Of course there are some lovely moments in the opera, most of which do not involve me. Ah well. I can’t have everything, eh? (I do want everything, however. Just in case you wondered. Well … everything good, that is. You can keep the “everything bad” for yourself.)

But I’m enjoying the opera. In case you wondered.
