Sometimes I watch the Grammy Awards. Not so much for the music, though; I just find it fascinating to see how outrageous some of the performers will dress and behave. It also gives me a chance to hear music I would not necessarily hear … just to check out the pop scene for a brief moment. (Similar to my watching the Academy Awards; I rarely go to movies and this allows me to at least see some clips. Is this pathetic or what?!)
I do wonder about the musicians on the Grammys; what is it about these folks and dressing? The actors at the Academy Awards usually seem to try to dress in some sort of stunning and/or Haute Couture way. Not so musicians. The musicians sometimes make me laugh, their choice of clothing is so hilarious … and they say laughter is a healthy thing. So we’ll see—maybe I’ll watch this year. Simply for my health.
I heard a segment on KQED this morning about one nominated group. The Borealis Wind Quintet has received a nomination for the Chamber Music category. Cool! How rare for a woodwind quintet! (Has one ever been nominated? I can’t remember if they said on the segment.) You can listen to the show here. I’m guessing that this particular category won’t be dealt with on the televised show.
