There’s a site (from the UK) that will tell you all about the joys and woes of learning to play the oboe. Really. Of course I just might disagree with some of what they write, but it did make me nod at times and laugh at others.

At the end of the page they give you a brief overview of what they’ve said and I’m posting it here for your enjoyment:

SUMMARY
  • Expensive instrument
  • Fairly difficult to start
  • Quite hard to find a teacher
  • Excellent opportunities for group music-making
  • Not particularly prone to damage, repairs can be expensive
  • Very easy to transport
  • These are fairly true, aside from the “hard to find a teacher” line … I’m right here, ready and waiting to teach you! :-)
