They did it! They played their pieces. They didn’t fall apart. And the jury was pleased.

Now on to bigger and better things … like finals week. Poor students … from the frying pan into the … well … you know! 🙂

But Winter Break is just around the corner. Hang on to that. You can do it.

I just realized that I can get all the Quartetto Gelato recordings over at emusic.com. Is that cool or what?

You can also listen to them by checking out the MP3 samples at their site.

Just an FYI post.

It’s jury day at SCU. This means that I’ll be hearing some woodwind students play. I’ll be listening, along with the other woodwind instructors at the school. For some students this is absolutely terrifying.

When I was in school I don’t recall really caring much about these. I think I was sort of oblivious to their importance. I had already landed the San Jose Symphony (RIP) English horn position, and I’m sorry to say I didn’t take school as seriously as I should have. Ah well. I survived.

And if there’s one thing I’d like to tell my students right now it’s, “You’ll survive!” No one is holding a gun at your head, ready to shoot if you make a mistake. No one is wishing you’d fail. We all just want to hear “where you’re at” and that’s all. This isn’t a music conservatory, and at this point I don’t believe there is one music major in the batch of students we’ll be hearing.

So it’s no big deal.

But of course it is to each of the players, and I know they are probably fretting over this. Ah well … it’ll be over quickly; it’s faster than a dentist visit (now those I fret over in a very major way).

Coffee & a Bagel
I’m at Mission Coffee Roasting Company. I’ve not been here for so long I didn’t know they had redone the side room and it’s now much larger and contains a performing space. It’s still cold, though, and the furnishings are still cheap. So it has retained the same funky feel it had before. And it still has free wireless, which is why I come here. I’m cheap that way.
