Irene Dalis, of Opera San José fame (these days) is featured in this month’s Opera News. What fun to see my boss there! The writer spent a bit too much time on her smoking, if you ask me, but of course he didn’t ask me. So there you go.
Too bad you can’t read the article unless you subscribe to the magazine (as I do) or are a guild member. My colleagues will see the magazine when we return to the pit for Madama Butterfly.

Might I have shingles? The doctor thinks that’s a possibility. Sigh.
Life is always full of fun little surprises, no?
So now I just have to wait and see if this tiny rash I have grows a bit and blisters. I went in because at times the thing feels as if someone is stabbing me with a needle or knife. Not fun, to be sure. But I’ll survive. Of course.
Oh … and yes, I had chicken pox as a child; that’s the only way one gets this joyful thing. And no, I’m NOT “65 or older”, I don’t have AIDS, and I thought my immune system was just fine. The doctor did say that stress can cause this to happen, though. That’s the only thing I can figure made it happen. Ah well. So far I’m doing okay, and we still aren’t positive that I have this illness. The doctor just couldn’t think of anything else that it could be … unless it’s really just a reaction to a bug bite. Hmm.
Guess time will tell.
Shingles?! Oh no! I hope not! Did you have chicken pox when you were a kid? When my uncle had shingles, I was told to stay far away, as I never had chicken pox. I hope it’s not serious. I’ll be thinking of you!
Thanks, Jillian!
I do believe it’s shingles, from all I’ve read. Such is life. So far it’s not too bad aside from the moments I feel as if I’m being electrocuted or something.
I’ve been studying up on this, and it’s not contagious aside from skin-to-skin contact, so I think folks around me are fine. My mom hasn’t ever had chicken pox, so I won’t have her touching the area, but I’m wearing long sleeves so she can’t even see it. For those who have had chicken pox even skin contact is no problem. (And yes, I had chicken pox as a child; you only get this if you have had chicken pox.)
This is a mild case, I think. I picked up meds today, but I’m going to do some research and see if I can skip them.
Ah, the joys of life, eh? 🙂
I wouldn’t skip the meds if I were you, my mom had shingles for MONTHS, almost a year I believe! I believe she was taking the meds all along, although she may have had a more severe case than you. Best of luck with that (mom is perfectly fine now!)

Well, I did go ahead with the meds, although I always hate putting junk into my body. If this is shingles, and I do believe it is, it is a very mild case. I’m guessing the stress of my father’s death may have brought this on. But who knows for sure? I feel too young to get this, though!
