I really have very little to say right now when it comes to oboe and English horn. Double reeds? Never mind! I am busy figuring out this whole wedding thing. So pardon the lack of insight and rambles!

Weddings. They are a lot of work. The most difficult thing, we are finding, is figuring out the where of it all. When I got married it was a church wedding and that was that. But times have changed. So we are looking at locations both online and in the real world. What a challenge! We thought we had the location figured out when looking at the pretty pictures at the UCI University Club. The food was embarrassingly horrendous. We found a cute place … in an extremely questionable neighborhood. Nix that.

So the search continues.

Anyone in SoCal know of a decent, affordable (!) location? Anyone want to help us?

Anyone?

  1. Hey there,

I was wondering if you could help me. I’m trying to find a copy of Gabriel’s oboe music for oboe and piano. I need it to play at my grandmas funeral on wednesday. I can only find it inthe UK and i’ll never get here fast enough. Do you know anywhere to get it. I tried searching online but no luck. Do you have it?

  2. I played the piece for a wedding once. All I did was download the piano version from sheetmusicdirect.com. From that I just wrote out the line that the oboe normally plays.

Nice to “see” you here, OboeMike! :-)

  3. Give Dabney Lounge on the campus of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena a try…

  4. I looked up Dabney Lounge and couldn’t find any info about prices. Do you happen to know where they have that at their site?

    Thanks!

  5. Oops, I think it’s called Dabney Hall. I know that they rent the space for weddings and concerts, but it may be reserved for associates of the university. I would check with someone through the main number.

    Good luck,
    Roger

  6. I attended a wedding and reception at the Mill Rose Inn in Half Moon Bay. I don’t know what your planning is (number of guests, price) but at least they do have a web presence to check out.

I realize this is not quite SoCal (but closer to San Jose/Santa Cruz.)

    Good luck with your search!

    David

  7. Thanks, David. The site DOES have to be in SoCal, so that won’t work. But I appreciate all the help I can get! :-)
