Check out the decibel level of an oboe, along with other, less important instruments 😉
THIS is why I sometimes have to ask students to play a bit softer. Controlling volume on an oboe is difficult for my younger students; their embouchures are just not as sensitive and capable of controlling the vibrations of that pesky double reed.
I’m surprised, though, that we have such a small range. I have a feeling we can play louder than that. But what do I know?
Notice how they call it “musical noise”? Hmmm.
For more on decibel levels and injuries to our ears, read this article.
I think I want to be a sound level meter. I’d be very curious to see the levels I’ve been dealing with, both at work and in the studio.
