Changes in cast and programme

Diana Damrau has been offered the chance to sing the title role in “Lucia di Lammermoor“ by the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She will replace Anna Netrebko. However Ms Damrau’s debut in this role can only take place if many of her other engagements are cancelled. And unfortunately her three concerts at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg will be amongst those affected. The manner in which this annoying and legally questionable cancellation was passed on to us by Diana Damrau’s agency was somewhat offensive.

Found here, but brought to my attention by Intermezzo.

Ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ….

Netrebko is out because of that little “family way” thing. I wonder if she’ll be at SF Opera later in the season. I’m guessing so; nannies are abundant, yes?

Bryn Terfel might just bow out of things too due to what appears to be “family first” kind of policy.

(I would never argue with anyone who makes a choice due to family. I’m a mom. So there you go.)

Or maybe it should be called Botswopera?

The signs for the No 1 Ladies Opera House have already been designed by Iain McIntosh, who illustrates McCall Smith’s 44 Scotland Street series in The Scotsman.

A new floor has been put in, the roof repaired, the walls plastered and painted, and five full-time staff recruited. Rehearsals for the grand opening on 21 June have already begun.

Compared to La Scala, it is on the small side. With a full stage and a dozen-strong orchestra, it will hold an audience of 60.

I read this here. I think it’s great … wonder if they’d fly in an oboist. Hmmm. Kinda doubtful.

I learned this, too:

The Teatro Amazonas, built by wealthy rubber planters in Manaus, Brazil, at the turn of the 19th century, is an ornate belle epoque opera house in the heart of the rainforest. Currently enjoying a renaissance since the election of an opera-loving governor, the building featured in Werner Herzog’s 1982 film Fitzcarraldo.
