And blogger responded to the singer with:

An artist should answer to a bad review with his art and not with words.

I’m glad the blogger allowed the singer’s response to be posted. I think any of us who blog should be brave enough to stand the heat and all that.

You can read the post here and see what you think.

But it did get me thinking. Is it wise for an artist to respond to a horrible review? Or even a slightly negative one? My guess is perhaps not. I’ve written some thoughts about reviews in the past, but I don’t write much; I’m so fearful that what I write will come back to slap me in the face. And those of us in the pit and on the stage actually do hurt when we are panned. (As I’ve mentioned before, I only have a tremendously bad review my by memory; “The overture was marred only by the bland English horn playing.” Sigh. That was back in the 70s. I still remember it. I always will. If I had a headstone on my grave it would probably be written on it. But I won’t, if my wishes are carried out. So there.)

And I wonder if anyone will ever decide to set up a blog that reviews reviewers. Hmmm.

In any case, I’m always saying I try not to take reviews too personally.

I can tell you, too, that I always fail at that.
