Here are just a couple of articles some might want to read. Or not. You choose.
Donald Runnicles, “I’m exactly where I want to be”
Zubin Mehta, “We bring together the joy, we generate the euphoria.”
Update … one more
Douglas Sanford leaves his post (Not quite as big a name as the other two.)
I’m going to miss Runnicles terribly, particularly as he’s really just coming into his prime right now. Still, I’m glad for him and I think he’s absolutely correct in his decisions. According to some classical music bloggers I’ve been reading from the U.K., the Scottish BBC Orchestra right now is the bomb. It’s like Runnicles gets to go home to a totally cool musical organization that’s ready and waiting for him.
We’ve just started our SF Opera “career” (in the audience). Last year we attended six operas, and this year we purchased an entire season (Heck, what’s money anyway? You can take it with you!). So I didn’t get a lot of Runnicles at this point, but I’ll see more of him this year, and our tickets are a wee bit closer than before. I’m looking forward to it.
(I’m assuming we’ll see you sometime(s) up there?)
Bravo on your work this weekend. Nice. Table. 😉
