Oboe players are rare but the whole orchestra tunes to them; they’re essential. -Blackburn

So that’s why we are essential. Got it.

The above quote is from an article about the CSUs, and how they will still make exceptions if you are strong in something specialized, and to keep certain programs going.

  1. Of course that’s why oboes are essential. It’s not like anyone wants to hear them, after all.

By the way, I got the following at 4:07 this morning (but I didn’t read it until just now) – I sent you an email last night about next week’s lesson:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients is still underway after 6.5 hour(s):

    [your email address]

Will keep trying and contact you if the message can’t be delivered permanently.

  2. I sometimes tell my younger students, “Don’t think colleges are searching for oboe players any more!” … and then I go and read that article. Oh well! Guess I’m wrong. Again.

I haven’t a clue why you can’t send the email; other mail is coming in just fine.

You can always use pmitchel [at] ucsc [dot] edu … that should work. Meanwhile I’ll send YOU a message and we’ll see if that gets through.
