I’m rather unfamiliar with Gesualdo. If I had heard this without knowing his dates (1566–1613) I would probably really puzzle over the era this was composed. And even knowing that I still puzzle over it!

    Oh, I loved Gesualdo back in school. He came up in harmony class and in music history class. So delightfully bizarre and out there! And utterly modern, yet not…

  2. I’m going to guess he came up in my classes as well. Sadly I was busy not paying attention while in school. (I continue to marvel that I graduated “with great distinction” … I can’t remember doing ANY work!)
