Received from Kyle Bruckmann:

Hello friends.

I’m excited about a concert this coming Sunday at 2:00 that those of you in the Peninsula or South Bay (or with sufficient excuse to make the trek) might find interesting:

works by twentieth and twenty-first century masters Luigi Nono, Luciano Berio, Earle Brown, Harrison Birtwistle, and Brian Ferneyhough

Menlo-Atherton High School Performing Arts Center
555 Middlefield Road/Atherton, CA (on the campus of Menlo-Atherton High School)

ticket prices: $10 general admission/free for students

SfSound (www.sfsound.org) was invited to perform; as it turns out, pianist Chris Jones and I will be the sole representatives. We’ll be playing solo pieces that are watersheds for our respective instruments — and for “classic” avant-garde composition, period — along with some duo outings touching down at various hazy spots along the continuum between “composition” and “improvisation” (i.e., sfSound’s preferred stomping grounds). The whole thing will be fairly casual, peppered with lecture/demonstration/discussion, and followed by an improvisation workshop (!) that high school musicians in particular are heartily encouraged to bring instruments and join. Should be fun.

Thanks for your time, and I hope all’s well.
