BWV199 – Cantata – Aria S: Stumme Seufzer
Magdalena Kozená, Soprano; John Eliot Gardiner, Conductor; English Baroque Soloists and Orchestra

  1. Wow! I’ve just added a new favorite soprano to my list. And great baroque oboe playing, as well.

Be sure to step over to YouTube for the follow on four movement ending to this cantata.

  2. Ah, Magdalena Kozená is a fave of mine, Bob! I “discovered” her because of another recording, and then had to look her up on YouTube. She is just incredible!

  3. Oh … and Bob … go here (embedding isn’t allowed):

youtu.be/Wk4j_WRqd68 … and then move on from there. That’s the album (Lettere Amorose) I have. I love it. Hope do you too! The final number on the album, “Merula Folle é ben”, hits my heart EVERY time. I’m not sure if you’ll find it on the YouTube videos …

Oh … but here’s this, which tells you more …

  4. She’s reached that enviable point in her career where she works with groups that are as good as she is. A wonderful result!

Thanks for the intro. I’ll be listening to more.
