BWV 106 “Actus Tragicus”
Ton Koopman

  1. Thank you, Patty. That’s one of my favorite cantatas and I haven’t heard it for a long time.

I particularly like the choral opening: after that lovely, gentle, opening sinfonia, it’s, “Gottes’ zeit, GOTTES’ ZEIT!, ist die allebeste zeit.” (God’s time, GOD’S TIME!, is the best time.)

And the later advice to put your house in order, for you must die…

Bach does have a way with his words and music, doesn’t he?

  2. Indeed he does, Bob. I never grow weary of Bach.
