Nope, never heard of American composer Kent Kennan before. I have heard this very young and talented flutist, Emma Resmini, before, though!

Kent Kennan: Night Soliloquy

The info: Emma (age 11) and Rose (piano) in recital on August 13, 2011.

Wow … eleven!

    Patti,

Kent Kennan was a very distinguished American composer and influential teacher of composition and music theory, having taught at Eastman School of Music and then for many years at the University of Texas in Austin. He probably is best known to several generations of music students because of his widely use book on Orchestration. Besides all that he was a very sweet man.

You are right: Emma is one of the wonders of the world,

  2. Interesting Jerri ;-) (kidding … I’m Patty with a y … as in “why why WHY!?”) … I’d never run across his name before. I’ll have to look him up and see what he’s written. Do you know if he wrote anything for oboe?

Somebody beat me to it! We’ve actually got 2 copies of his orchestration book here, M’s and mine.

  4. Who knows … maybe I even had the book! I wasn’t exactly studious when I was in school. I was busy being married and playing in SJS and I honestly am amazed that I managed to graduate! Sigh. (If I could go back and do it again I’d do everything so differently.)
