My eight-year-old recorder pupil is thinking of learning the oboe and announced to me today that her Dad had taken her to a shop called “Hogwarts or something like that” to look at oboes. I’m presuming she meant Howarth’s and that JK Rowling and the Harry Potter brand haven’t been taking over music shops whilst I’ve been away for a few days?!!
A beginning oboe player is a special type of hell on earth. “What’s that noise?! Who is boiling a cat?!”
