(In case you haven’t seen them, “Live Music Is Best” bumper stickers used to be popular. I don’t know that I’ve seen any recently.)

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform the National Anthem before the nationally telecast Thanksgiving Day game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins. Except it won’t, really.

Jaap van Zweden (Mark M. Hancock)

Some 45 members of the orchestra will be on the field, with music director Jaap van Zweden conducting. But they’ll only be miming the music, while the sound system will blast out a recording of the full orchestra, made Thursday morning at the Meyerson Symphony Center. Singer Ann Wilson, however, will be “live,” syncing with the recording.

“We don’t like to advertise that fact,” said Cowboys’ executive producer Matt Coy. “But with 45 members of the orchestra it’s going to be difficult to do it live.”

Well, at least the musicians are alive. Right?
