How To Get Into A Professional Orchestra

Or not.

  1. The article makes this look so easy. Of course we musician know otherwise. This almost trivializes the process or the journey from when we get the “calling” to when you actually win an audition. They don’t tell you that openings in professional orchestras are far rare especially in the winds and brass sections Someone has to either quit (retire) get fired or opening due to death. The competition is fierce and the rejections are difficult as well. For some just getting past the resume round is tough. Unfortunately this is the mind set of many parents of music students. They really don’t realize how much time and sacrifice it really takes to be an “artist”. Okay off my soapbox.

  2. It’s just so crazy ridiculous, isn’t it? Crazy.
