Let’s listen to the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestral recording and see when the oboe breathes during the solo! THEY DON’T

(Who knew that an oboist was more than one person? Yeah, I’m old and I hate that “they” is used for the singular.)


  1. Perhaps the writer did not know the gender of the performer and chose to avoid a teapot tempest.

  2. Oh I know why someone does this, but it still bothers my ear! I would prefer a rewrite that can avoid gender identification. I’m silly that way. 🙂
