I love the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola. It’s great fun to sit in the orchestra and play the little oboe part while listening to colleagues play those lovely string instruments.
BUT … well … a transcription? Sure. Why not?
I can just see raised eyebrows and hear the moans and groans. And no, this isn’t a flawless performance. That’s called live music! Perfection is recorded music. Live music is exciting and fun and so much more.
You will immediately notice the oboist holding his instrument so very high. No, we don’t do that here in the US. I’ve always assumed it has something to do with the reeds, since they play such different reeds in other countries. I’m not sure what a Russian reed even looks like!
