How to write a poem like Saphho might have,
written while relaxing upon a sofa,
seems a task impossible to rise up to —
one I can’t fathom.

What’s the rhythm? How can I keep it going:
going without tripping or skipping? Changing
beats, I often add or subtract. I’m faking —
easy to do, yes?

Gallop, gallop, galloping off in laughter!
You can throw your hands up, or put your thumbs down.
I am finished, perfectly happy, winking,
knowing I’ve cheated.

(Another of my poetry jokes … in case you aren’t familiar with the form!)
