It seems I spend a lot of time counting down. I count down days when I have a fun job coming up. I count down days, too, when I have a job I’m not comfortable playing and I want it to end.

Right now I’m counting down to the IDRS 2014 Conference in New York. I’ll be attending and, I hope, live blogging.

Tom Nugent is principal oboist in the Mendocino Music Festival, and he’ll be playing there so I really look forward to hearing him. I will be meeting up with friends I met last year, and I’m hoping to meet some people I’ve corresponded with but never met in person before. If any readers (ARE there any readers here any more? I’ve been so bad about this blog!) will be there do let me know and maybe we can connect too.

Yep … NYC. In August, no less.

Small bit of info so far.

I’m sitting in the San Jose Airport, waiting to board my early morning flight. Yep, off I go to my first (only?) International Double Reed Convention. I have my camera. I have an EMPTY reed case. I plan on posting photos if I can manage to get anything decent, and I plan on trying out reeds and I hope for something more than decent. Time will tell!

For now, though, I’m sitting here with my nonfat double latté. We don’t take off for an hour and 10 minutes, so I have time to waste.

I’ve never attended this before and I am happy to say I’ll be going this year for a couple of days! I’ll be there Wednesday and Thursday, and possibly a bit on Friday if I think I need to see and/or hear more.
