Some years back I shared a video and started a new category called Outside My World because the music included double reeds but was the kind of music I either never or only rarely get to play. The third video of that series was so sweet and I just loved it. Here it is again, in case you don’t want to go back to that old page:

I’ve not posted Outside My World videos in quite some time. These days I just can’t keep up with the regiment I kept for so long. I do miss all my little blog categories, but I’m happy to not have the pressure of searching for things and I’m just too busy with other things (photo walks!) to spend as much time in front of the computer.

BUT …

Who knew, nearly three years later, I’d hear from the creator of this video, Kristin Sedivec? I sure didn’t! But how fun to receive and email and find that she is still playing and still making lovely videos. Here’s one for today:

Muslims, Jews and Christians playing together …

(This is an 1 hour, 23 minute long video, in case you didn’t notice that.)

From the YouTube page:

We are delighted to present The Middle East Peace Orchestra at Bosjökloster — a unique collaboration between Arab, Jewish and Christian musicians playing concerts for peace. The orchestra, initiated in 2003 by Henrik Goldschmidt, principal oboist of The Royal Danish Orchestra, consists of Muslims, Jews and Christians from Israel, the Palestine Areas, Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Scandinavia and the USA. They are all handpicked virtuosos representing the best of their tradition and furthermore they all have the courage to engage in this project. Ever since the very first concert in 2004 the Orchestra has been received with the greatest enthusiasm from both audience and press.

Yep … no more. I’m done searching for these things that show musicians playing oboe or English horn in a style I don’t normally do. So Mondays are turning into something new. I just haven’t quite figured out what yet. If you’d like to make a suggestion feel free. Or maybe I’ll just always have something from the “For Your Listening Enjoyment” here for Monday. Dunno quite yet.

I’m betting no one will miss the “Outside” series anyway. If I’m wrong I do apologize!

And if you want to see what the heck I’ve posted in the past, just click on this and then click on the titles of the blogposts.

No live videos of Yusef Lateef that I can find, but this will have to do for now:

Oops … a little late today.

More of John-Luc Fillon for you.

Glenn Ferris: trombone
João Paulo: piano
Jean-Jacques Avenel: double bass
Tony Rabeson: drums
Jean-Luc “oboman” Fillon: english horn

I’m running on empty for this category. Perhaps someone wants to suggest something new for Mondays?

… with a bit of serpent added in for good measure.

This is another Jean-Luc Fillon video:

I’m not really a jazz person. But Jean-Luc ‘oboman’ Fillon certainly is. When you get in to around 4:20 or so you see him playing the Marigaux “Altuglass” oboe. I’ve always wondered about the clear oboes. I’m not sure I want to see the inside of my oboe after I’ve played for a while. I do know, though, that several oboists I respect rave about them.
