So a lot of folks (see here here and here and here and here, for instance, are listing the first five famous quotes from movies that pop into their heads. From all the links I’m finding, it looks to be a popular game. So anyway, I’m doing it quite honestly and putting up the first ones that pop into my head, rather than trying to put up some that prove I’m clever, or others that show you I watch great movies.
Here are the very first quotes that pop into this head ‘o mine (but do read below the quotes as well, because I find something pretty funny):
“Go ahead, make my day.”
Sudden Impact, spoken by Clint Eastwood
“You talkin’ to me?”
Taxi Driver, spoken by Robert DeNiro
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn!”
Gone With the Wind, spoken by Clark Gable
“Here’s lookin’ at you, kid.”
Casablanca, spoken by Humphrey Bogart
“I’ll be back.”
The Terminator, spoken by Arnold Schwarzenegger
Okay. Ready for the funny thing? I’ve not seen ONE of these movies! Not even Casa Blanca.
So there you go … movies invade our lives even if when we don’t see them. They worm their way into our language. And so do lines from TV. I have spoken certain lines only to find out later they were from a show I’d never seen. I find that interesting. And sort of scary.
(What this has to do with music, I don’t know, but I’ll try to come up with a connection. Maybe.)
