When I speak of the gifted listener, I am thinking of the nonmusician primarily, of the listener who intends to retain his amateur status. It is the thought of just such a listener that excites the composer in me.

I heard from 9th grader, Matthew, today. He told me that I taught him how to make reeds. I’ve never met him … so how could this happen, you wonder? He used my tutorial! So yay for Matthew (and thanks for telling me). Now we just need to find him a private instructor and get his cracked oboe repaired or, better yet, find him one with a left F. Unfortunately I can’t do those things long distance.
I love hearing from oboists, so don’t hesitate to IM me if you see me online. My screen name is patioboe. C’mon, say “hi”!
