I’m watching a video of Un Ballo right now. Yesterday I listened to a CD. Is there no recording with a good English horn player?! I’m really astounded and disappointed. The singers are wonderful, but of course I also listen to the orchestra. The English horn solo is difficult, but I know it can sound better than these two recordings. The DVD is better than the CD, but even it isn’t acceptable.

Ah well. I’m guessing it will be lovely in Opera San Jose’s production! (Played by a friend and colleague, Pamela Hakl.)
