First of all, it was a waste of talent to use Itzhak Perlman to give us a little listen to each of the scores. Oh well. There is no way that you get a good idea of the music when you are hearing an arrangement of music played by solo violin (sort of) and orchestra. I’m guessing Perlman was paid quite well. I believe when he played for us he earned more in one night than I earned in a year. Such is life!
But Brokeback Mountain just won. From what I can tell/hear, it isn’t all that great, but I’ve not seen the movie. The music didn’t seem to have much to it. I suspect it’s more a vote for the movie than the music. Besides, John Williams has enough awards. He’ll live.
