But first the news: No Carpet For Now
That’s right. If I’m going to put in carpet I’m going to get quality, and what I’ve found that will work well runs close to $800. Ouch. I’m not going there for now. Surely no one will mind the somewhat stained carpet … right? After all, we’ll be dumping reed shavings on the floor all the time.

But I found a nice valance for the window … well, two of them, due to the width of the window. Yay!

So here’s the window-wall and the cove where the piano will go:

Curtains&Cove:

To me the curtains look funny in this picture … sort of striped but not quite. They are actually more like checked, as you can see below:

Curtains:

Since I’m on a roll, here are two final pictures. The first includes a bit of the cove, the closet, and door to the hallway. Normally the door will be wide open, so students can see me through a large window in the hallway as they walk to the door. (Of course they’ll hear me or a student no matter what!) The second is the other corner of the room, again with the door to the hallway. I realize this is more than many of you care to see, but my family looks at this site, and Kelsey is enjoying watching me alter her room so drastically! Someday I’ll have to show you pictures of how she had it decorated for a few years … right, Kelsey?! 😉

Door&Wallpaper:

The last picture sure makes the stripes look a little drugged out. Trust me—they are just stripes. Nothing more.

I wasn’t referring to Mr. Reel when I wrote my cautionary message yesterday.

And I do want to say that there are times when one simply has to write the truth! I just suggest that we all think for, say, 24 hours, before posting anything that may come back to haunt us.

I have this saying: “Is it kind? Is it true? Is it necessary?” Rule number one is that no matter what I post, it must be true. That’s one absolute requirement. Then it needs to fit at least one of the other two requirements; it must be either kind or it must be necessary. True and necessary? Piece of cake—I’ll post those. Now sometimes something is true and necessary and not terribly kind. I may or may not post that. Some things just need to be said (or written) if I’m to live with myself. Sometimes something is kind and true. Those are easy to post. But many of the things that would be true are simply not necessary. Those are usually things that I really, really want to write because I’m angry and I want a bit of revenge, or I’m terribly frustrated and I want to vent. Those are the things I’d best stay away from, don’tcha think?

Any yeah, I know this all sounds very goody-two-shoes. And no, I’m definitely not a goody-two-shoes sort. Ask my friends or family and they’ll fill you in on what a jerk I can be. I do and say a lot of stupid things. I write things here that would be better left unsaid. More often, though, I think terribly mean things, and I often want revenge (nothing violent, mind you!). I don’t know if I’m worse than the next guy (I often feel that way, but my personality is such that I often don a hairshirt, if you know what I mean).

Okay. Nuff said. Over and out. (For now. You know me … “I’ll be back.”)

Looking at the studio today, I see I have an overlap with the wallpaper. Rats! I’m guessing no one else will notice, but still. Well, nearly no one else … I know at least one person who will notice.) Ah well. Nothing to be done about it now.

I took a natural light picture this morning, so you can see the light fixture now. More to come, of course!

StudioInNaturalLight:

This morning I’ll go to a local carpet store and see if I can afford them; they are in the area (walking distance, actually) and I like to support local businesses (they aren’t a chain). But, because I live in an expensive area, they might charge more than I can afford. Still, the room is small (about 11X10) and maybe they’ll even have some sort of remnant that would work. We’ll see! Then it’s valance shopping time. I know what I want, and can order them online, but I want to see if I can get them locally to avoid shipping charges.

Now isn’t all of this just fascinating?
