I blogged yesterday about a picture of an awful oboe. Today I saw the exact same picture on this week’s artsopolis deal page. How odd, eh? Guess they must have done the same google search on oboe images. This is the picture they used. I find it particularly unattractive; the oboe is a bad one, to be sure, but to my eye it’s also upside down.

Maybe it’s just my problem, though?

Anyway, I’m actually writing about the San Jose Chamber Orchestra concert this Sunday. It features an oboist, Jessica Pearlman, whom I first heard on the radio show From the Top. You might want to go!

I know that I do.

Update
I just located this article on Ms. Pearlman.

I had a most wonderful time with Ben, an oboist from Australia, who came for a visit. What a fine player, too!

Thanks, Ben, for coming by. It was great to meet you and to hear you play. Bravo!

This just in, from Jillian Camwell:

I thought you’d be interested in this great podcast by Christopher Millard, bassoonist with the National Arts Center Orchestra in Ottawa. He’s interviewing Chip Hamann, principal oboist of the NACO, and there are a couple of archival recordings of Chip playing. Very interesting for double reeders!
