Lebrecht professes his motives are pure: “I am driven by a strong sense of justice; I also have a belief in the good that art can do, so I want it protected from exploitation by charlatans.” He concedes he can be harsh and receives significant hate mail. But there’s only been one death threat: “In Israel, where someone threatened to kill me for something I’d said about Mahler.”
So … do you think his motives are truly pure? I’ve not read enough of him to say. I just remember when he dissed Mozart.
