I’m not saying that San Jose’s singers are equal to the world-circuit singers who routinely perform in San Francisco. But you know what? Over the weekend, they were every bit as good. This little company has some exceptional talents — and they almost always sing as if their lives are on the line, as if nothing matters except the performance at hand.

and then …

SAN JOSE OPERA’S LUCIA di LAMMERMOOR. One of the most exciting reasons to go to operas is when you and the audience “discover” a new and wonderful voice. That happened last Sunday at San Jose Operas performance of Lucia di Lammermoor with hearing and seeing soprano Khori Dastoor sing the title roll of Lucia for the first time. I was definitely part of the longest standing ovation I’ve ever seen at any of the Opera San Jose’s productions. Check out her website www.khoridastoor.com then get tickets asap for her San Jose performances of Lucia Sept 14,16, and 22.You can go to the Opera San Jose website for details. Khori who’s a Southern California native from Pasadena will also sing in their productions of Werther, Rigoletto, and Magic Flute but you have to choose carefully because they always have two casts. There was nothing wrong with the other singers, the staging, or the orchestra. Khori was just so good that’s all I’ve been thinking about.

Clearly Lucia di Lammermoor is a hit with some bloggers. It’s always wonderful to read these!

We have a another show tonight. First, though, I have three students. And so now I’m going to rest up so I have the energy for teaching and performing. I find both require an energy I might not have if I don’t prepare properly. By resting.

As everyone knows, rests are important in music. 🙂

Not that I don’t have a computer, but I don’t have mine!

Apple is doing right—or more than right—by me; they are repairing my computer so it will again burn CDs. As has been the case in the past, I’m impressed with their service. (Not that I’ve had something go wrong after the warranty just expired, but when I’ve gone in with problems they have always been patient, polite, and helpful.)

As I drove away, I realized that 1) I can’t retrieve email from any accounts but the .mac and ucsc ones because this family computer isn’t set up for the planetmitchell accounts and 2) my calendar is on my computer and the one on this isn’t quite up to date. In addition, any email I should have responded to will now have to wait.

I just wasn’t thinking they’d take the computer right then; I assumed they’d tell me how much I’d have to pay and I’d say, “Oh well, I’ll have to do without the burn capability.”

Silly me … should have thought positively, eh? What a surprise that I didn’t!

But anyway, hoorah for Apple! They have a very satisfied customer.
