So a friend and fellow oboist told me about her “idiot check” which I have now taught my students. Before leaving home, check for everything: oboe, reeds, music, tuner, reed making equipment, cigarette paper (or, as I use, end papers) for water in keys, swab … all the essentials …
GUESS WHO IS NOW AT UCSC WITHOUT ANY REEDS?!?!
Sigh.
Yes. I. Am. An. Idiot.
We all do it. It’s not the first, and it probably won’t be the last. There isn’t some safety mechanism we can make about this problem, is there?
Well, I’ve never done it before, and I don’t plan on ever doing it again! I’m usually quite organized, and I pack the night before since I leave home at 7:15. My mind is just elsewhere these days I guess!
Maybe I need to have a checklist on top of my oboe bag.
But at least I was in clothes, not pjs, right? 😉
