Clarinetist David Thomas has requested that I read his letter to Columbus at his site.

Other bloggers have mentioned the situation as well (see here, here* and here for instance).

Having been in San Jose Symphony (RIP) since 1975, and having been there when it died, I feel for these musicians. Trust me, it is heart breaking to deal with. I do hope Columbus can get things together and that the musicians don’t have to go through what we did here. It’s devastating.

  1. Thanks for the mention, Patty. I’m sorry you had to go through the death of San Jose. I am still hopeful about Columbus, but I’m planning other options.

  2. I did read about your audition plans, Dave. I wish you all the best! You have my admiration; I just can’t imagine doing auditions. I’m wimpy that way.

I was fortunate to still have Opera San José when San Jose folded, and Symphony Silicon Valley was formed shortly after SJS’s demise. It’s not nearly the same amount of work, but it’s something.
