BIRMINGHAM Opera Company will be staging a production of a Mozart favourite – in a former rubber factory.

The opera group, which bounced back after a funding crisis this year, will be putting on Idomeneo at the Sherborne Building just off Ladywood Middleway.

So … you know … “rubber factory” … “bounced back” … I’m guessing that was done on purpose? Or maybe I’m just weird.

I don’t know much about Idomeneo, to be honest.

I don’t quite understand … Mozart’s opera is in Italian, isn’t it? So are they saying they dumped his libretto, read the original story, and then translated that into 21st century English?

It’s very hot here (although it’s now cooled to 91 degrees). Maybe my brain just isn’t working. I’ll be so glad when this heat wave ends. I get very grumpy in hot weather. We don’t have AC, nor do we need it; while it gets hot here, it doesn’t last more than a week, and rarely that long. So I’ll survive. But my brain is definitely on hold.
