So … I’ll quickly post this before hitting they hay, even though I normally don’t post anything but music on Sundays ….

Opera is over, and I’m home after attending the party after. I never go to those things (heck, we usually aren’t invited, to be honest) … but I went tonight and that means I’m home after midnight and I’m about to turn into a pumpkin. BUT … I thought the opera went quite well. I was satisfied with my playing, but of course now I’ll wonder and worry about reviews and all. (Not that reviewers usually mention the orchestra, mind you.) This opera is a toughie. We have a lot of notes, and very little time to rest or swab out instruments. I’m doubling, which is unusual for a principal oboist. And it’s “count count count” nearly all the time. But I think we all performed well. The audience responded quite enthusiastically. And now we turn around and do it again this afternoon at 3:00, with the other cast.

My work work work is play play play.

I’m exhausted. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to wake up in time to get to church; we’ll see. Right now it’s pretty clear that I MUST get to sleep or tomorrow’s matinee will be a terrible struggle. So off I go.

(By the way, did you know someone wrote a MUSICAL of “Anna Karenina”? Yikes! You can find snippets on YouTube. I’d post one, but I simply can’t bear to!)
