I know a long-time amateur oboist who switched to English horn because, he says, the oboe required more time than he had to spare for practice – the English horn being more forgiving.

  1. I don’t know why people say English horn is easier than oboe. In my opinion, it is equally difficult to play either instrument truly well.

  2. I’m with you, Gabrielle! I think the big thing is that, when first playing it, it feels just a bit easier because of the size of the reed or something … but, really, ANY instrument is difficult when one is working on playing it well!

    Well, except maybe kazoo.
