… but never the Vento (and please oh please don’t buy a Vibra … I’ve played one and they are not acceptable!).
Feel free to comment.
reed on!
Take a look-see at the more of what I do and who I am if you feel like it! (I'm not "just" oboe and English horn. Honest!)

Oh – but no split ring d key – not buying this.
I think there are more reasons than that to avoid this instrument! I am guessing it’s like the Vibra.
and it sounds like a fibreglass reed to complete the ensemble…
You know you love it, Bob! 😉
Hey, I might pay $20 for it, just for the convenience of an instrument I don’t have to warm up before playing. (I’m still getting used to warming up my Rigoutat every single time I want to play.)
*evil grin*
I think it would make a lovely lamp stand. 🙂
Oh … and Anna, I’m curious about the insistence for the split D ring. While my oboes have it, it’s really the last thing I worry about. Fill me in, please! Why is it that you (or is it your teacher) really wants this? I’m not arguing … I’m honestly curious! 🙂
(I’m very fond of the MCW oboes, and the less expensive doesn’t have it.)
That wasn’t me, it was someone named Anne (-a, +e) who insisted on the split D ring. I’m clueless.
Although my oboe does have a split D ring, it wasn’t something I was shopping for when I bought it.
After about 4 months of lessons, I’m now working on a Loeillet sonata. It sounds wonderful on my Rigoutat.
Ah … I misread the first name. Sorry! I would love to hear from her to see why the split D ring is vital. It’s really not all that necessary … at least not in my opinion!
I’ve never played a Rigoutat oboe, but I sure do love my Rigoutat English horn!
Oooh, I’d love to hear a Rigoutat English horn!
And I’d love to find out what kind of oboe British oboist John Anderson plays. I love love love his tone.
Oh my word it’s hideous! I used to squawk on a plastic oboe I borrowed from school (I’m a string player and clarinettist but nobody was using the oboe so I decided to have a go) and I’m sure I only sounded marginally worse than that.
Yep, it’s hideous! There are a number of horrendous brands out there, sad but true.
