… and I’m embarrassed to say I knew neither name. I read these here:

Another link to Romantic Bohemia is gone: Czech violinist Josef Suk has died at age 81 after a long illness. He was Dvorak’s great-grandson and the grandson of composer Josef Suk.

Mark your calendars! (No orchestra there, though.)

On July 16th at 7pm, OSJ will return for a third year to perform at Santana Row, one of Silicon Valley’s premiere shopping destinations. One of the perks to this lovely venue is the opportunity to enjoy the performance while dining al fresco at one of the many restaurants encircling the Park Valencia stage. The Santana Row concierge also has a special treat lined up for passionate shoppers: from July 16-31, guests who spend $300 in a single day at Santana Row can receive two free tickets to Idomeneo (September 10-25 at the California Theatre in downtown San José).

Bengals offensive line coach Paul Alexander admits that he is in a unique spot. For the past three years, he has been taking piano lessons from a concert pianist and then coaching professional athletes.

Those lessons, principles and applications are in a new book by Alexander called “Perform: A Journey for Athletes, Musicians, Coaches and Teachers,” which will be released Tuesday.

“It is a book that shares the perspective of doing difficult things and making them easier,” Alexander said.

For the past three years, Alexander has been receiving lessons from Albert Mühlböck, who also was his daughter Carolyn’s teacher at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). Besides taking lessons from Mühlböck and training to be a concert pianist, Alexander has learned a lot about human performance.

Does anyone in Wayne County play oboe and will be in town July 10-14?

The Goddess of Spring – 1934 (A Silly Symphony Cartoon)

-removed- sorry, folks, I didn’t watch this carefully. I can’t tell you how many cartoons are offensive due to racism. And those I won’t put up.

(Of course many I put up are rather sexist as well. Hmm. Might be time to nix the Saturday morning cartoon thing. I’m gonna think this one over ….)

this oboe in the soundtrack for ‘History of Violence’ is a little much; tone it down Howard Shore
