I just read this headline:

Finally, a Computer that Writes Contemporary Music Without Human Help

For some reason (is it just me?) I read the “finally” as in “this is a good thing and we’ve been waiting eons for this”.

Not I.

Maybe it’s just my problem, though.

I read it here.

I’ve never done a contest or giveaway. Mostly because I am just too lazy. But hey … it’s 2013. I may as well try something new, right?

So Shabby Apple, a creative online store with really sweet women’s clothing along with other things, has offered this contest and I think it’s pretty darn cool. I love their clothes, and I thought maybe my musician friends would as well.

Here are just a few things that caught my eye that are black and handy for concert folk:
Cape Cod Skirt
Hollywood Boulevard Skirt

What do you have to do? You have to “like” Shabby Apple on Facebook and leave me a comment here, telling me which item on the site would make your day (or week, year or month). (Please note that the comment button is right below the title of this post, not below!) You do have to have a USA shipping address.

On January 31 I will put all of the names into a box and the first oboe student who arrives that day for a lesson will get to choose the recipient of a $100 gift card. How cool is that?!

Just remembered I saw 2 fit young oboe players yesterday…#miraclesdohappen

Okay … just have to post this. Because I usually DO think of ukelele when I think of Mozart. (Thanks patti with an i and, from what you wrote, Ted S. who must have brought it to your attention …?)

Yeah, I suppose some trombonists can go pro … 😉

So darn cool!

Mr. Finlayson is using the GoPro camera to do this. He is the second trombonist in the NY Phil, and his site is here.

Hmm. We oboists can’t do this. I suppose we could try to attach the camera to a reed knife ….

There is a Symphony Silicon Valley set this week. Concerts are on Saturday and Sunday, and rehearsals begin on Wednesday. I still don’t know if I’m playing.

This has never happened before. We are doing the music of Kurt Weill, and from what I’ve been told no works they have at this point call for second oboe or English horn. Trouble is, not all the music has arrived. I’ve had to cancel students, but who knows if I really needed to. I’m so hoping I’ll find out soon so I can put students back on the roster if I am not called after all.

In any case, readers can still attend the concert, yes? Lisa Vroman is singing. Should be a good one.
