This week are the final Symphony Silicon Valley concerts of the season. We are doing Haydn’s Symphony 100, Carl Maria von Weber’s Andante and Hungarian Rondo for bassoon and orchestra, and ending with Beethoven’s third. What a concert!
My friend and colleague, Deborah Kramer, is soloing, and it is truly a delight to hear her. She sounds absolutely fantastic, and I’m in awe. Brava, Debbie!

I thought I’d have no work for a while after this week, but as it turns out I have a small job next week, and then I’ll be doing a couple of opera performances in San Francisco in July, so that’ll be fun. I’ll be playing second oboe (and I believe English horn) for Streetcar Named Desire by Previn. This is a new opera to me, so I’m happy to get to do it. The drive can be a bit tiring, but the experience should be very good for me. It’s with Merola, so I’m sure I’ll be hearing some amazing voices.
Following the opera I will have some more work with Symphony Silicon Valley as we do our summer pops series. Those concerts aren’t yet announced (as you can see here), but I think I’ll at least get to play one of them, and perhaps two.
Later on in the summer I will be heading to New York to attend the IDRS convention. Yep. Two years in a row. How could I say no to a convention in New York. Right? I’m hoping to do some blogging from the NYU campus.
