For Passion Week:

Malaysia Bach Festival Singers and Orchestra and Ton Koopman perform a chorale from Bach’s “St. John Passion”.

O help, Christ, Son of God,
through your bitter passion,
that we, being always obedient to you,
might shun all vice,
your death and its cause
consider fruitfully,
so that, although poor and weak,
we might offer you thanksgiving!

Sepulto Domino from Responsoria pro Hebdomada Sancta, ZWV 55

Sepulto Domino, signatum est monumentum,
volventes lapidem ad ostium monumenti:
Ponentes milites, qui custodirent illum.
Accendentes principes sacerdotum ad Pilatum, petierunt illum.

After that the Lord was buried, they sealed the sepulchre,
rolling a stone to the door of the sepulchre,
setting a watch to keep Him.
The chief priests came together unto Pilate,
and made that request unto him.

Pochován Pán a zape?et?n jest hrob,
a p?ivalili kámen ke vchodu do hrobu.
Postavili vojáky, kte?í jej st?ežili.
Velekn?ží p?išli k Pilátovi a žádali ho.

The Choir of Royal Holloway sing the 10-part setting of ‘Crucifixus’ by Antonio Lotti.

I heard VOCES8 sing this a few years back. I have to admit my tears were not at all slow at that time. This song will forever feed my heart and soul.

VOCES8 sings Orlando Gibbons’ setting of the Passiontide hymn ‘Drop, Drop, Slow Tears’ at the VOCES8 Centre in London. The track forms part of the ensemble’s 15th anniversary recording project, ‘After Silence’, and can be found on all digital music platforms. For more information about the album project, visit

Drop, drop, slow tears,
And bathe those beauteous feet
Which brought from Heaven
The news and Prince of Peace.

Cease not, wet eyes,
His mercy to entreat;
To cry for vengeance
Sin doth never cease.

In your deep floods
Drown all my faults and fears;
Nor let His eye
See sin, but through my tears.

Phineas Fletcher (1582–1650)
